any ideas, fixes,approx cost EUR?:

mazda6, 2.2 cd (163hp), 2011 (GH - sedan, electric power steering.

Problem: power steering with not even turning force from one side to other (in my case=> to right it goes harder and to left it goes easier. When driving, the car tends to go to the left side. When I turn of engine (at the moment when engine turns out)steering wheel turns freally to one of the sides (by approx ~ 10 to 25 degrees) and when I start engine back, it tends to turn back a bit by 3-5 degrees.

It started without any warning when I parked my car today at car park (when I switched off engine, steering wheel turned freely by itself as I wrote previous..). Checked the tire presure, wheel boltings and wheel stifness for any free side moving - looked ok. Any Ideas?

Unfortunately this is known issue of mazda 6. The issue lies in steering gear. You can try to go to Mazda and ask for replacenent acceptance.

I dont't know what is really wrong with it. In my case they replaced entire steering gear saying that some early production steering gears had some manufacturing issue.

krolik_pw: yours still were under warranty or not when it happened? What was approx mileage? As I understand my Mazda6 2.2 Cd is ~1Y older (2011.07), but mileage is still small ~ 60K km.

Until now, there where pretty much no serious problems - most noticeable were => rusty brake disks (same problems were with my previous Mazdas 6 - 2002 6 diesel and 2007 2 petrol) and rust with my first Mazda.

Anything else serious with yours Mazda that I could be aware in nearest future? In many forums I saw that there are problems with 2.2Cd engine drive chain and Dpf that could cause terminal damages. For my surprise, I did not have any serious suspension problems with any of my Mazdas taking in to account that roads in Latvia are pretty rough... its till now and of course you never know untill it happens :)

My M6 is GH model (the one after face lifting) from 2012, with same engine as yours so 2.2 163hp.

When they replaced the steering gear my mazda had ~90K km, and was still under additional +2 years guarantee which I've bought from mazda (it was guarantee mostly for mechanical components called by mazda as "mazda for 5 insurance service guarantee").

Until now, I didn't have any serious issues. Furthermore i heard that this model is really well prepared construction comparing to previous and later versions.

As it comes for rusty breake disks I've replaced my ones with those produced by Textar (the disks are with some special anti-rust coating and after 30k km there is still no isue with rust).

I've didn't heard about issues with drive chain except that again for early production where those chains after few kilometers start to be longer and therefore were changing engine work.

I heard aso that this Dpf whis is installed in my mazda is the best of the best one (dry dpf) and there should be no issue with it if you will allow to finish the burning process every time it will start it.

The Dpf issue is well known in other engine versions than R2AA.

The most funny thing is that manufacturers usually (at least after some little time) know about potential terminal problems (DPF etc), but they do nothing to prevent them from appearing. In some videos with that DPF shit, there were some oil pump big particles filters (changable, cleanable etc) that were fully stuck with some big metal particles (in the videos there where actually also analysis of which parts of the engine and why they are created and what is the result at the end) - when you go to maintenance service at the dealer those kind of filters must be cleaned out, but it seems that nothing has been done ....

ok let's see what the dealer will say when I arrive at them next week. At the moment, by the phone it seems like there will be some repairs at cost approx ~ 650EUR (parts + work). Hope that it won't be at least more expensive...

steering was reprogrammed /re-calibrated (at dealer) and for some days it worked - everything were pretty fine, but now the problem starts to get back => steering is a bit lighter to the left side, to the right side its harder, and when you turn of engine, after it stops (ignition is out), the steering wheel turns slightly (usually to the right by 10-20 degree) by itself.....?

At the dealer they are talking that the problem is known (for these mazdas) and it is mechanical (at the horizontal part of the rack under the car).... I dont know how it could be mechanical as this power steering is electrical and when you turn ignition/engine off it suppose not to turn by itself (as wheel is turned by electrical motor)??? The most worrying thing is, that they could "solve" the problem (mechanical), but the problem soon after will return. And that's the problem also :)....
